As we embark on our exciting journey as seniors exploring Canadian parks, savoring local

cuisine, and seeking unique experiences abroad, our appetite for adventure extends beyond the trails and landscapes. The heart of a place can often be found in its culinary delights, and we’re delighted to share our recent dining escapade right here in our hometown of Grande Prairie, Alberta.

Grande Prairie holds a special place in our hearts, and as we eagerly anticipate our upcoming travels, we’ve made a point to dive into the local culinary scene. One standout destination that has captured our attention is none other than Latitude 55 Distillery. Nestled within the charming embrace of the old firehall, this local brewery has expanded its horizons to encompass not just drinks, but an inviting lounge and eatery that promises a unique dining experience.

As we stepped through the doors of Latitude 55, we were immediately struck by the warmth of the atmosphere and the preserved character of the old firehall. The traces of history a

are woven into every corner, with artifacts from the original firehall proudly on display. It’s a testament to the commitment of the establishment to honoring the past while embracing the present.

On the evening of our visit, the air was filled with the sweet strains of live local music, good company, and the thrill of upcoming adventures set the perfect tone for our culinary exploration.

Navigating dietary restrictions can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to enjoying a meal out. However, Latitude 55 had us covered. Being gluten-free, we were pleasantly surprised to find a delicious gluten free option on the menu. The charcuterie tray, a tantalizing assortment of meats, cheeses, and accompaniments greeted us, setting the stage for a truly delightful dining experience.

Of course, what’s a visit to a local distillery without indulging in some of their beverages. We sampled their local creations, sipping on carefully created libations that carried the essence of the region. To complement our meal, we opted for a bottle of wine, the perfect companion to the flavors that awaited us.

The crescendo of our evening was the main course- the much-anticipated gluten free pizza known as “Tres Carnes’. As seniors who have sampled our fair share of gluten-free pizzas, we can confidently say this was a standout. Every bite was a symphony of flavors, with the trio of meats dancing harmoniously atop the perfectly crisp crust. It was a culinary masterpiece that left us truly impressed.

Our evening at Latitude 55 Distillery was not just a meal; it was an experience that celebrated local history, live music, and most importantly, the joy of savoring exceptional cuisine. As we embark on our travels, we carry with us the memory

of this charming establishment and the anticipation of uncovering similar culinary treasures in every corner of our journey.

Grande Prairie may be our starting point, but Latitude 55 has ignited a sense of culinary wanderlust within us. It’s a reminder that no matter where our adventures take us, there’s always a world of flavors waiting to be discovered. With our bellies satisfied and our spirits lifted, we can’t wait to continue our exploration of both Canadian parks and the delectable cuisine that accompanies them. The journey has just begun, and we’re ready to savor every moment-one bite at a time.
