This last February we embarked on a journey to the enchanting coastal paradise of Mazatlán, Mexico. Our home away from home for two weeks was the splendid Hotel Riu Emerald Bay, an all-inclusive family resort nestled along the pristine shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Serendipity smiled upon us during our stay, for we arrived just in time for the Mazatlán Carnival, one of the world’s three largest carnival celebrations. This vibrant and lively event unfolded over six days, filling the streets with parades, music, and infectious energy of the local culture. As if the carnival wasn’t enough, we were in for an extra treat. Our stay at Hotel Riu Emerald Bay included a private residence booking, which came with the privilege of a sumptuous full-course meal and possibly the best seats in Mazatlán to watch the grand fireworks display that marked the pinnacle of the carnival celebrations. From our exclusive vantage point, we had an unobstructed view of the fireworks. It was truly an enchanting experience that added an extra layer of splendor to our Mazatlán adventure.

Beyond the comforts of our resort, Mazatlán had plenty to offer. We had the chance to explore the city’s vibrant streets, either by joining guided tours from the resort, or, like we chose, taking public transportation to experience the city at our own pace. Mazatlán’s rich history, and the welcome of the locals let an indelible mark on our hearts.
